Plastic processing is also called plastic molding processing. It is the general name of various processes that convert synthetic resin or plastic into plastic products. It is a large production department in the plastic industry. Plastic processing generally includes plastic batching, molding, machining, bonding, modification and assembly. The last four processes are carried out after the plastic has been formed into products or semi-finished products, also known as plastic secondary processing.

The common methods for processing thermoplastic plastics include extrusion, injection molding, calendering, blow molding and thermoforming. Molding and transfer molding are generally used for processing thermosetting plastics.

The mechanical processing of plastic processing borrows the plastic processing methods of metal and wood to manufacture plastic products with accurate size or small quantity. It can also be used as an auxiliary process of molding, such as sawing of extruded profiles. Because the properties of plastics are different from those of metals and wood, plastics have poor thermal conductivity, low coefficient of thermal expansion and elastic modulus. When the pressure of fixture or tool is too large, it is easy to cause deformation, melt easily when heated and adhere to the tool. Therefore, when machining plastics, the tools used and the corresponding cutting speed should adapt to the characteristics of plastics. In addition, plastics can also be cut, punched and welded by laser.
